Carstairs Real Estate: Small Town Living, Big Value Near Calgary

If you've been priced out of Calgary or just done with the city grind, Carstairs is worth a serious look. Sitting about 58 km north of Calgary along the QEII, this Mountain View County community offers something that's getting harder to find closer to the city: real space, real value, and a town that actually feels like home.

Schools and Families

Carstairs is a strong choice for families. W.H. Croxford High School and the elementary and junior high serve the community well, with smaller class sizes and a tight-knit environment that's hard to replicate in the city.

A community that sticks with you

Carstairs is a small town in the best possible sense. Neighbours know each other. Kids grow up running around at the Carstairs Rodeo and Beef & Barley Days. There's a local business scene, good schools, and the kind of streets where people wave when you drive by. If you've been looking for that - you'll feel it the moment you arrive.

I moved here with my husband and three kids over four years ago. It changed how we think about where we want to live, and I haven't looked back once.

The Commute Question

The drive to Calgary runs about 45 minutes in normal conditions, and the QEII corridor makes it straightforward. For buyers who can work remotely even part of the time, Carstairs becomes a genuinely practical choice — not just a lifestyle one.

Carstairs Real Estate: What To Expect

The Carstairs market offers single-family homes, newer builds, and some of the best acreage access in Central Alberta. You'll find more square footage per dollar than anything comparable in Calgary or Airdrie, and properties here tend to move when they're priced right — inventory is limited, so when the right place comes up, it matters to be ready.

Mountain View County acreages are a particular draw for buyers looking for land, a shop, hobby farming space, or just real privacy. If that's what you're after, this is the right area.
